Do we want control Or the permission to surrender To know the playful chaos of our souls Like we did when we were young and tender To want and need And dance and dream Like a wildflower in the weeds Leaning toward a sunbeam Do we want protection Or the permission to fall To not have to choose between perfection And nothing at all Can we be safe If we are not free To make a million mistakes And still be seen as worthy Do we want control Or do we just miss our innocence And how it made us brave and bold Before we learned the consequence Of being who we really are Is being told what we lack Because control may take us far But it cannot take us back
