We fear the dark for what it hides And the light for what it reveals But most of all we fear to look inside To admit (even to ourselves) what we truly think and feel I'm not saying that it's wrong or shameful For I've seen what happens to the foolishly brave Who make themselves tragically vulnerable Forgetting how badly the threatened behave Yet there are those masters who get their due For using the tools of their imagination To portray the frightening and beautiful truth By deftly contrasting shadows with illumination On their canvas we are finally able to see The colors that bleed from our mind and our hearts And the dark and the light of our souls safely Thanks to the palpable power of art
