Sometimes this world enrages me so much that I find myself feeling drained and hopeless. And while those feelings are valid and need to be felt, if I stay in them too long it’s not good for anyone. Fortunately, music is an excellent tool for helping me to manage my emotions. It might not change the world but it can change the way I look at the world and its possibilities as well as remind me of my values. And that was the inspiration behind this week’s playlist.
The majority of the songs on this playlist are from the 60s and 70s. Of course, that reflects my musical taste but I also think that was a more hopeful time in history. Not that there weren’t significant conflicts and struggles then but that in spite of them, or at times even because of them, people believed in and acted for change. I think that’s a good reminder for the times we live in now. As the first song on this list reminds us, “The darkest hour is always…right before the dawn”.
You can Click Here to view and listen to the full 20 song playlist. I will share three of the highlights for me and some brief commentary below. You can find all my playlists by clicking here.
Also, if you have any suggestions for songs you think would fit on the list, please let me know and I will be happy to add them.
O-o-h Child by the Five Stairsteps (1970)
This song is like a soothing lullaby at the end of a depressing day.
Keep the Faith by Bon Jovi (1992)
I feel like people either love or hate Bon Jovi. This is a great song regardless. It soothes and energizes me at the same time.
If I Can Dream by Elvis Presley (1968)
Elvis at the top of his game, singing his gospel best.
Listening now and what about let love rule by Lenny Kravitz?
